How to Choose an Outdoor Solar Shower
-
Spray Outlet Versatility
Outdoor showers offer different outlet configurations. Some units provide only an overhead head and a low foot tap. Others add a flexible handheld sprayer. If you need to wash pets, rinse sand off children, or spray outdoor gear without getting your hair wet, pick a model with a dedicated wand. The Nollapo KR-106 includes a 6-foot handheld hose alongside its overhead and foot taps. If you only need simple pre-pool rinses, a dual-outlet setup meets standard needs without extra hoses.
-
Total Overhead Clearance
Check the total height specification to confirm taller users can stand upright beneath the stream. Shower heights in this category range from 79 inches up to 90 inches. Compact units measuring around 85 inches suit average heights. Taller bathers should verify clearance before buying to avoid crouching during rinses. The TLSUNNY 16-Gallon model stands at 90 inches, offering upper-range clearance for open backyards. Make sure your installation area has adequate overhead room if mounting beneath low pergolas, eaves, or overhanging tree branches.
-
Maximum Temperature Limits
Solar shower reservoirs warm internal water using ambient sunlight and dark exterior finishes. Specifications often list maximum internal heating limits, commonly ranging from 131°F to 140°F. The VINGLI 9.3 Gallon model reaches up to 140°F under direct sunlight. Higher temperature ratings allow you to blend more cold hose water via the mixer valve, which effectively stretches your warm water volume. Check whether the shower includes an integrated hot-and-cold mixing handle so you can safely regulate the temperature before stepping under the flow.
-
Shower Head Articulation
Look at the shower head specifications to see if the nozzle swivels or remains fixed. Fixed shower heads send water straight down along the main column. Rotating or swivel heads tilt on a ball joint, directing water away from the post for a more comfortable standing position. The Goplus 10-Gallon shower includes a rotating head that lets you adjust the stream angle to suit different heights. If multiple people share the shower, adjustable angle heads provide flexible coverage without shifting the base.
-
Frame Weight and Anchoring
Freestanding solar showers require firm anchoring onto concrete patios, wood decks, or solid stone surfaces. Dry frame weights vary across models, ranging from under 18 pounds to more than 27 pounds. The Outsunny 7ft shower weighs 17.8 pounds empty, making initial positioning easier during assembly. Heavier columns provide a stouter metal base plate prior to securing hardware. You must match the included bolt-down hardware to your foundation material to ensure the tall column remains steady once filled with water.
-
Off-Season Protective Covers
Prolonged outdoor exposure to weather, UV radiation, and falling debris can degrade PVC columns and clog open shower nozzles. Some manufacturers include a protective cover in the box, saving you from purchasing third-party tarps. The Garvee 10-Gallon model lists an included pool cover for shielding the unit when not in use. If you plan to leave your shower outside throughout seasonal weather shifts, having a fitted cover protects the fittings, base assembly, and mixer valves from grime and sun damage.
Frequently asked questions
Do solar outdoor showers get water hot enough for bathing?
Yes, several models reach temperatures up to 140°F. The Goplus 10-Gallon and VINGLI 9.3 Gallon units both achieve this maximum heat level. The Outsunny 7ft model reaches 131°F. These temperatures provide warm rinsing suitable for poolside use after swimming.
Which solar shower has the largest water capacity?
The AMGYM 20-Gallon Solar Heated Outdoor Shower holds the most water at 20 gallons. This capacity exceeds the 16-gallon tanks found in the Papababe and TLSUNNY models. Larger reservoirs allow for multiple consecutive users without needing to refill the tank immediately.
Are foot showers common on solar heated outdoor showers?
Foot showers are a frequent feature on many of these units. Models from Lerphado, LDAILY, VINGLI, Goplus, and GIANTEX include dedicated foot taps. This layout allows you to rinse sand off your feet before stepping into a pool or spa area.
What is the tallest solar outdoor shower in this list?
The TLSUNNY 16-Gallon Solar Outdoor Shower is the tallest at 90 inches. The Nollapo 10-Gallon model also stands 90 inches high. The Goplus 15.9-Gallon unit matches this height. Taller frames provide more overhead clearance for users of varying heights.
Can I use a handheld sprayer with a solar outdoor shower?
Some models include handheld sprayers for versatile rinsing. The Nollapo 10-Gallon unit features a 6-foot handheld sprayer alongside its rainfall head. The Outsunny 10.6-Gallon model also provides a handheld option. These attachments help target specific areas for cleaning pets or gear.
How do I connect a solar outdoor shower to my water supply?
These units typically connect to a standard garden hose. The Papababe, Goplus, and GIANTEX models rely on hose inlets for water input. You do not need complex plumbing or electrical wiring. Simply attach the hose to the designated inlet and let the sun heat the water.
Which solar shower offers the most spray outlets?
The Papababe 16-Gallon model provides three distinct spray outlets. The Nollapo 10-Gallon unit also offers three-way rinsing via an overhead head, handheld sprayer, and foot faucet. The Outsunny 10.6-Gallon model includes three functional spray outlets as well. Multiple outlets increase rinsing versatility.
Do I need to anchor these showers to the ground?
Yes, anchoring is recommended for stability. The LDAILY and GIANTEX models feature bolt-down metal bases or require anchoring into solid surfaces. The Goplus 15.9-Gallon unit also connects easily when anchored. Securing the frame prevents tipping, especially when the tank is full of water.
