Who it fits
Good fit for
This pool suits homeowners with a flat, level yard who want a large swimming area without permanent construction. The semi-permanent steel frame allows you to keep it up year-round. You will appreciate the included essentials like the ladder and sand filter pump. It is ideal for families needing a 24 by 12 foot footprint for active play. The easy three-tool setup makes it accessible for DIY installation without hiring help.
Who should skip it
Skip this option if you need a portable pool that moves frequently. The heavy-duty steel frame and 7,157-gallon capacity make it too large and heavy to relocate easily. You might also look elsewhere if you prefer a smaller footprint, as this model requires significant yard space. Additionally, if you want a deeper water option, note that the listed height is 52 inches. It is not designed for small patios or irregular terrain.
Verdict: The Bestway Hydrium offers a robust, large-capacity swimming solution with included filtration. It is a solid choice for permanent backyard installations.
Bestway Hydrium Key Specs Explained
Dimensions: 24 ft x 12 ft
This footprint requires a rectangular backyard area of at least 24 by 12 feet. You need extra space for the ladder, pump, and walking room. Compare this to smaller 16-foot models if your yard is tight. The large surface area allows multiple swimmers to move without crowding, making it suitable for families who want shared relaxation time.
Pool Height: 52 in
A 52-inch wall height provides deep water for comfortable swimming strokes. This depth is standard for above-ground pools but taller than many inflatable hot tubs. It ensures your head stays above water while treading. Check your local fence regulations, as this height may require a barrier. It also offers better visibility from the surrounding patio or deck area.
Frame Material: Galvanized steel
Galvanized steel resists rust and corrosion better than untreated metal. This material supports the water weight and maintains structural integrity over years of use. It allows you to leave the pool standing year-round in many climates. Compare this to resin or polymer frames, which may flex more. Steel offers superior stability for larger water volumes.
Water Capacity: 7,157 gal
This volume holds over 7,000 gallons of water, providing a substantial swimming experience. It requires a stable, level ground base to support the immense weight. You will need a powerful pump to filter this volume efficiently. This capacity is ideal for lap swimming or group use, unlike smaller spas that hold only a few hundred gallons.
Filter Pump Type: Sand filter pump
A sand filter pump uses a tank of sand to trap debris and particles. It is generally quieter and more durable than cartridge filters. You will need to backwash the system periodically to clean the sand. This type of filtration handles larger debris well, keeping the water clear with less frequent maintenance than smaller spa filters.
Design and Build Overview
The Bestway Hydrium 24' x 12' pool uses a semi-permanent design that integrates into your backyard landscape. According to the listing, the structure relies on heavy-duty galvanized steel for its supports, walls, and top platform. This material choice resists corrosion, which allows you to keep the pool assembled year-round without worrying about structural degradation from the elements. The frame provides stability for the large water volume it holds.
The pool measures 24 feet in length, 12 feet in width, and stands 52 inches high. This footprint creates a spacious area with a water capacity of 7,157 gallons when filled to 90%. The inner liner features a coating designed to resist sun damage, preventing cracking or discoloration over time. This ensures the pool remains reliable through repeated seasons of use.
Installation requires only three tools: a screwdriver, wrench, and knife. No professional assistance is needed for setup. The listing includes a 1,600-gallon sand filter pump, surface skimmer, ChemConnect dispenser, ladder, ground cover, and pool cover. These components are essential for maintaining water quality and safety. The design focuses on durability and ease of maintenance, making it suitable for long-term outdoor enjoyment.
Setup and Everyday Use
Setting up this Bestway Hydrium pool requires only three basic tools: a screwdriver, a wrench, and a knife. The listing confirms that no professional assistance is needed for installation. This straightforward assembly process allows you to prepare the unit without hiring external help. Once assembled, the pool integrates into your backyard landscape as a semi-permanent fixture. The galvanized steel walls and top platform provide structural stability, allowing you to leave the pool standing year-round without concern for immediate corrosion. Daily maintenance is supported by the included 1,600-gallon sand filter pump. This pump circulates the 7,157-gallon water capacity to keep the water clear. You also receive a surface skimmer to remove debris from the water surface. The ChemConnect dispenser helps manage chemical levels automatically, simplifying water care routines. For safety and convenience, a ladder is included for easy entry and exit. Ground cover protects the liner from sharp objects, while the pool cover shields the water when not in use. The inner liner features a coating designed to resist sun damage, preventing cracking or discoloration over time. This durability supports consistent use throughout the seasons. The brown color option blends with outdoor environments, though navy and dark gray are available if you prefer different aesthetics. The 52-inch height offers ample depth for swimming. Overall, the package provides all essential components for immediate setup and ongoing operation. You do not need to purchase additional equipment to start using the pool. The included accessories ensure you have everything required for basic filtration and maintenance right from the start.
Key Considerations For Owners
Before you commit to this Bestway Hydrium model, consider the ongoing requirements of maintaining a 7,157-gallon water volume. The listing includes a 1,600-gallon sand filter pump, but you will still need pool chemicals and testing strips to keep the water safe. Ensure your electrical outlet can support the pump’s power draw, as the listing does not specify voltage requirements. You must also verify that your ground is level and clear of sharp objects, as the included ground cover protects the liner but cannot compensate for uneven terrain. This semi-permanent steel structure fits into the larger category of backyard water features, distinct from inflatable hot tubs or spas. It offers a permanent swimming experience rather than a portable heating solution. Check if your local zoning laws allow above-ground pools of this size. Finally, confirm you have space for the included ladder and skimmer, as these components extend beyond the main 24 by 12-foot footprint.
Check before you buy
- Verify local zoning laws for above-ground pools.
- Ensure your ground is level and clear.
- Check electrical outlet compatibility for the pump.
- Confirm space for ladder and skimmer extensions.
